Top Tips to Get Your Skin Glowing This Summer.

As the scorching summer rolls around, our skin begins to experience changes. With heat and humidity, your skin starts screaming for more TLC. So it’s essential that you stay on top of your skincare game and BIOEFFECT has the top tips for you.

Cleanse.

Cleansing daily, morning and night, should be a part of everyone’s skincare routine. Cleansing clears the pores of any unwanted debris that might clog them and prepares the skin for any skincare products you might be about to apply.

Scrub-a-dub.

Exfoliating then removes dead and dulling skin debris to even further improve hydration provided by moisturizers.

Keep your skin moisturized. Once clean, dry off but don't dry out.

Up your skincare regimen by using not only a moisturizer but also intensive masks to really harness hydration. Masks work great when layered over a serum or moisturizer. You can also refresh your skin on-the-go with a refreshing facial mist.

Water is your new best friend, and we mean that!

The warmer it gets, the more your internal dehydration is, which can result in headaches, dizzy spells, and visible signs of dehydration. The rule of thumb is that you should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of plain water a day, making it easy to remember. ‘8 x 8’ to prevent dehydration and maintain the critical moisture balance of the body and skin!

Protect yourself from the sun.

Say it with me; SPF, SPF, and SPF. SPF is your other best friend and should always tag along when outside in summer, also when it’s cloudy (those pesky UVA rays can penetrate through clouds!) Specialists recommend a teaspoon of SPF for the face, a shot glass for the body, and should be reapplied every 2 hours.

Repair (as much as you can) sun damage.

UV light causes photoaging in the form of brown spots, coarse skin, and wrinkles, whether you have burned your skin or not. When sunlight comes in contact with skin a cascade of damage results (including the stripping of barrier lipids) causing inflammation, production of reactive oxygen molecules that affect healthy cell growth, and stimulation of collagen destructing enzymes.

To summarize, (and state the obvious!) summer is typically warmer and sunnier than winter. It’s only natural that your skin has different needs. When you’re spending more time in the sun, it’s important to be mindful of sunscreen. Find a broad-spectrum SPF 30 and reapply every 2 hours to protect your skin from premature aging and skin cancer. Try a lightweight moisturizer or serum and go lighter on the makeup, exfoliating no more than once per week. If you want a healthy glow, opt for a self-tanner or tinted moisturizer and powder with SPF. Cover up with clothes and accessories and consider adding some with UPF 50+ to your wardrobe if you’re headed to or living in areas with extremely hot and harsh sunlight. And lastly, a summer-friendly beauty routine will keep your skin happy and healthy all season long.
