OUR STORY
IN THE BEGINNING

BIOEFFECT was founded by three Icelandic scientists when they discovered, after over a decade of research, a way to bioengineer a plant-based human replica of EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) in barley plants. EGF is one of the most important growth factors for skin, helping to boost production of collagen and elastin to maintain healthy, dense and youthful skin.
MEET DR. BJÖRN

Dr Björn Örvar is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of BIOEFFECT. He received his Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Biology from the University of British Columbia and was a post-doctoral fellow at McGill University before returning to Iceland to launch ORF Genetics and later BIOEFFECT.

OUR HERO

The flagship product, BIOEFFECT EGF Serum, was launched in Iceland in May 2010. In the years since BIOEFFECT has become a global success and is sold in premium stores worldwide. The product line has also grown and will continue to expand over the next couple of years.
